Husband Is American What Kind Of Immunization Does He Need When Travelling To Philippines?

My husband is 29 yrs old and he never been to the Philippines. He’s going to stay mostly in Cagayan de oro, butuan and camiguin. What kind of immunization does he really need? The doctors dont even know those cities so he just recommended as if he’s staying in Manila. But we’re not even gonna stay more than an hr in Manila. I was in Philippines last yr I havent been there since I was 15 but I didnt really get sick except had stomach ache from drinking glass water in the restaurant. Anyway, any suggestions? what about antibiotics? He’s only staying for 2 wks and a half. Thanks all!

I will be cautious and get the vaccines. Before anybody gets offended I will just like to state a fact that if you travel anywhere, and I mean anywhere in the world you should get vaccinated. It’s odd that the US does not have any recommendations for you guys, here in Canada we need to get shots before we travel.
They are quite expensive especially if your insurance will not cover but better be safe than sorry. I went home last year and I had the following vaccines:
    1. Cholera
    2. Hepa A & B
    3. Typhoid Fever
It will not hurt if you carry anti malaria medication too.

He does not require any immunization shots. There is no official or government agency that is going to check.
I am actively involved in numerous Yahoo internet support forums that focus on living in the Philippines and from much discussion with numerous individual over several years health officials do recommend travelers get certain immunization shots depending upon the area they will visit. I would say a good supply of Doxycycline. For dengue fever and if you want Japanese Encephilitis vaccination. Although all I do as I am American in the Phils is take the doxycycline. The encephilitis vaccination is expensive and painful and might get you sick.
Lived in the Philippines for 3 years and my best friend has been the imodium!

IMHO, not necessary within those places, to be safe , hepatitis B immunization will be great and also included what they recommend for Manila. Insect repellent are great additional.
Bottle water everywhere right now, its safer choice for drinking.

Philippines is very safe. Just eat and drink safe, you’ll be fine in two weeks. You need to immunize him with those Filipina beauties, he may be attracted to some while travelling….I heard there are lots of beauties in Cagayan de Oro and Butuan….

No need for immunization. As long as he is physically fit to travel so he need not to worry. To be safe, pls advise him to drink purified water which is very affordable & available in his destinations.

I would highly recommend a Tetanus shot incase he steps on a rusty nail or something like that. Big chance of that happening as you know. Thats about all really.

Probably just typhoid and hepatitis vaccinations.. Nothing else besides that.. Just drink distilled or mineral water all the time.. The water is not dirty but it has contents that he is not used to yet.. He will adjust to it in a day or 2 though if he decides to drink regular tap water…
Antibiotics is not necessary and doesn’t really do you anything.. You only take that if you already acquired the sickness..
Check with you Center for Disease Control or City Health Office.. They advised me last January to take those 2 vaccinations before going to the Philippines but me and my wife didn’t get it.. He doesn’t really need it unless he plans on eating food and drinking water from sidewalks (except for fishballs).. He’s fine but you can spend that extra $100 to be sure if you like..
